| Q: |
What is SafeForce™ driving? |
| A: |
SafeForce™ driving means preparing for and expecting the unexpected and driving accordingly. It's as simple as our A-B-C's: Smooth vehicle Accelerations, Braking, Cornering and Speed control are key components to driving safely and efficiently. |
| Q: |
What functions does the SafeForce™ Driving System perform? |
| A: |
At the heart of the SafeForce™ Driving System is the Road Safety on-board computer that provides audible feedback to the driver when unsafe driving conditions are detected. A dual axis accelerometer measures forces exerted on the vehicle, due to hard cornering for example, and reports them to 2 of the 6 available on-board computer analog input channels.
The on-board computer also detects and records vehicle speed, RPM, ignition and 14 additional user defined digital inputs. These inputs are commonly used to monitor brakes, left turn signal, right turn signal, seat belts, emergency lights, siren, vehicle warning lights, reverse, spotter switches and emergency brake.
Active driver identification allows the on-board computer to record all events by driver and by vehicle. The on-board computer has a dedicated input for system tamper notification and 6 digital outputs. The digital outputs may be programmed to turn on vehicle or external components when a user defined parameter has been met.
The on-board computer provides automatic and unmanned downloading of vehicle data to your base station computer. The system will also interface with external devices such as GPS receivers, enhancing the capabilities of AVL and CAD systems. |

| Q: |
How quickly can the Road Safety system pay for itself? |
| A: |
Cost/Benefit Analysis reports by Road Safety customers reveal that the SafeForce™ Driving System can easily pay for itself in less than one year in reduced maintenance costs alone! The money saved from the prevention of just one major accident will pay for the purchase of the SafeForce™ Driving System in every vehicle in most fleets. Unfortunately, it is hard to document accidents that did not happen due to the change in driving attitudes brought by the SafeForce™ Driving System. However, it's easy to see how additional dollars and, potentially, lives, are saved by the reduction in vehicular accidents. The fact is organizations are already spending the money for not having our system, by doling out dollars for preventable accidents and unnecessary vehicle repairs. By investing in the SafeForce™ Driving System, these dollars can finally be used for the financial benefit of the company and the safety of their employees. |
| Q: |
Will the SafeForce™ Driving System interface to GPS, AVL or CAD systems? |
| A: |
Road Safety offers a Global Positioning System (GPS) module, or will interface to your existing GPS system. The SafeForce™ Driving System brings many enhancements as a "front end" to AVL and CAD systems. Detailed vehicle operations, locations, driver information and status may be passed from the Road Safety system to your AVL or CAD. |
| Q: |
What does organized labor think about the SafeForce™ Driving System? |
| A: |
SafeForce™ driving places a priority on safety, and the system provides a completely objective evaluation of driver performance, without prejudice. Unions that are aware of these facts embrace the SafeForce™ Driving System concept. |
| Q: |
What are driver's reactions to the SafeForce™ Driving System? |
| A: |
Nobody likes " big brother watching." Fleets that were operating without a driver monitoring system may initially observe some resistance to change. When management makes it clear they are committed to safe vehicle operation and drivers start to see the benefits of SafeForce™ driving, concerns quickly disappear. When new drivers join the organization with the system already in place, the SafeForce™ system seems only natural to them. |
| Q: |
How much time does it take to manage the system? |
| A: |
Road Safety systems were designed to reduce administrative burden, not increase manpower or work loads. Automatic and unmanned downloading of vehicle data brings the information directly to your desktop computer. The power and flexibility of the Road Safety database allows you to produce reports specific to groups or individual drivers and vehicles, all with the click of a mouse button. Regardless of the size of fleet or number of drivers, our SafeForce™ Driving System is typically administered by one Risk & Safety, Operations or Maintenance person. The time saving benefits SafeForce™ driving brings allows them to administer the system without interfering with other duties. |
| Q: |
How do I get data from the vehicle to my PC? |
| A: |
The most common method for downloading data from the SafeForce™ Driving System to your base station computer is using our 900 MHz spread spectrum RF data transceiver. The system allows you to automatically download the units, with no human intervention, whenever vehicles return to the yard. This extremely efficient method offers download speeds of up to 115K Baud, is FCC Title 15 exempt from licensing charges and carries no air time communication fee. Other available download methods are direct hard wire connection, 800 MHz radio modem and digital cellular. |
| Q: |
How many days of driving data will the system record? |
| A: |
The system's base memory configuration will store well over a month's worth of data without overwriting driver and vehicle occurrences, events or table data. Expanded memory modules are available for isolated vehicle data collection applications. |
| Q: |
Is the SafeForce™ Driving System easy to install? |
| A: |
All Road Safety systems are designed for user installation. Unique hardware and software features such as electronic calibration and hardware test screens simplify the installation process. Fully documented installation procedures and help screens make the installation easy for even the most inexperienced fleet mechanics. |
| Q: |
What types of vehicles does the SafeForce™ Driving System work on? |
| A: |
Road Safety Systems interface to virtually any vehicle. Our systems have proven themselves in the harshest of climates and driving conditions. Road Safety systems are successfully utilized in environments such as the freezing temperatures of Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, the intense heat of Phoenix, Arizona and the high humidity of Houston, Texas. |
| Q: |
What benefits does the SafeForce™ Driving System bring to a fleet? |
| A: |
The SafeForce™ Driving System improves safety by involving the driver as part of the solution, rather than making them feel as if they are a victim of the process. By changing driving behaviors, SafeForce™ driving improves safety and drastically reduces fleet operating costs. SafeForce™ driving reports quickly identify those in need of driver training or refresher courses. Reports will then document and quantify improvements as they are made. Reducing the likelihood of accidents and eliminating unnecessary maintenance repairs could save a life and will significantly contribute to the financial health of any fleet. |
